More than 100 of Round Rock’s finest fanned out to 58 neighborhood parties on National Night Out.
The annual event, held nationwide in August, celebrated its 33rd year in Texas on Oct. 4, when the weather is typically cooler. The gatherings allow officers to meet with residents, talk about concerns and figure out ways to effectively reduce neighborhood crimes.
“For more than 30 years, we’ve participated in America’s night out against crime,” said Joseph Claypool, Round Rock community affairs officer. “We get the opportunity to meet and talk one-on-one with residents and most importantly neighbors are meeting each other.”
Police, fire and EMS personnel, along with city officials, rotated to multiple parties throughout the evening.
A block party on Vintage Drive featured dinner for dozens of neighbors, officers, detectives, EMS and fire personnel and other city representatives. Officers mingled with adults and handed out toys, water bottles and information to children. Several boys rode their bicycles, pretending to be Round Rock police officers.
“It’s always good to get out and talk,” Round Rock Lt. Sean Johnson said. “We enjoy seeing neighborhoods like this. This is a great community.”
Personnel were thanked by residents for their service. Several officers said the night helps them connect with the community they serve.
“We work in partnership with the community we serve to combat crime and keep Round Rock safe,” Claypool said.
