After nearly 10 years of teaching music lessons, a Pflugerville couple is preparing to expand their business.
On May 5, 2010, Michael Garcia began teaching music lessons in the space in which he and his wife, Reema, currently operate Out of This World Music School.
“We love the community in Pflugerville. It has this small-town feel charm; people know each other,” Reema said. “It’s been so supportive.”
The music school features a space-themed band room and a “green room,” which is covered in green to allow for the creation of music videos.
There is also a giant teepee filled with sand in the middle of the school for children to stay busy between lessons or when waiting on their siblings.
“We really feel like creativity can be inspired by your environment,” Michael said. “We try to make it so that when someone walks in, it takes them away from their world and immerses them in this musical world.”
Michael and Reema said they have students as young as 4 and some in their 60s. They offer group and individual lessons for a variety of instruments and will even help a student decide which instrument he or she wants to play.
“Most of the teachers teach multiple instruments, and if they notice a kid stalling out on a particular instrument, they’ll try another,” Michael said.
Out of This World is a non-curriculum school, Reema said, meaning that teachers tailor lessons to each individual.
In April they began construction to expand the school, absorbing the suite next door to create six more music rooms, a larger lobby and an office area.
Aside from additional space, the expansion will allow Out of this World to hire more music teachers and take on more students.
“We have some amazingly talented kids, and we teach with the possibility and the thought that each kid might change the world with their music,” Michael said.
