A question for Mayor Victor Gonzales

What are your goals as mayor? I will work to improve relationships with small businesses, develop plans for infrastructure and manage our growth responsibly.

Big decisions made in 2016

  • The city of Pflugerville contracted with Avalanche Consulting to develop a strategic plan for the city, the first update since 2011.
  • An estimated $1 billion development, dubbed Project Sunshine, was nixed, at least temporarily, when the City Council voted to dissolve the economic development agreement for the project, which called for a mixed-use development of restaurants, office space, residential and retail.
  • Negotiations continue to bring a hospital to Pflugerville, along with Costco and Living Spaces, three large developments offering services and destination shopping opportunities to the city. The first hotel in Pflugerville opened in 2016, with the second coming soon in 2017.

Top issues for 2017

  • Construction will begin on Weiss and Rowe Lane early this year.
  • The city will have a new website.
  • 1849 Parks and Sports Complex Phase 1 will be ready for sports play.
  • Stone Hill Park will open in the fall.
  • Typhoon Texas will open in May.
  • A new police chief will be named to replace retiring Chief Chuck Hooker. Jessica Robledo, she spent the last 13 years with Austin Police Department, was named interim chief on Jan. 5.
  • Negotiations continue for several large developments, including Pflugerville’s first hospital, a Costco and Living Spaces.
