What we reported On Oct. 20, the City Council approved the Brooklands’ rezoning, which allows high-density residential with a mandatory mix of commercial and parks.


The 161.8-acre property at the southeast corner of CR 137 and
FM 1660 South will likely include
608 houses, built in six phases,
16 acres of commercial property and 14 acres of pocket parks and open space.


Other projects in Hutto include 310 apartments at North Creek; 9,000 square feet for a retail shopping center at 485 Chris Kelley Blvd.; the H-E-B Plus at Gattis School Road and SH 130; expansion to businesses at 109 and 111 East St.; expansion of Downtown Hall of Fame, 205 East St.; the construction of Collision Craft at 653 W. Front St.; 7,006 square feet of commercial space on Front Street; 4,000 square feet of office space at 101 Front St.; a 7,000-square-foot convenience store/fuel station at 6020 N. FM 1660; and 80 units of senior apartments at FM 1660 and CR 137.


The latest The Brooklands is submitting plans to the city while the other construction projects are underway in various phases. The H-E-B store opened Nov. 16. Its optical store, a first for H-E-B, is expected to open in January. The expansion at Downtown Hall of Fame opened Nov. 23.


What’s next The gas station, convenience store, other retail and services and Whataburger at H-E-B are slated to open the next two months. Other developments, including work to restore 117 East are underway and are expected to open with new businesses in February or March.
