Dana Smyth, owner of Wink Boutique in Pflugerville, said the shop is a family affair.
She said she loves sewing and embroidery, and her husband, Chris, a full-time police officer, does engravings. Their two daughters, Faith, 11, and Parker, 8, run their own business called Posh Princess Boutique inside the shop selling their own beaded chunky jewelry.
“It is their own business,” Smyth said. “It is so important that even at a young age they realize they can contribute. Whatever they make, they get to take a portion of it out, and they have to reinvest in the beads.”
Wink Boutique opened in 2012 and specializes in unique products and gifts, including one-of-a-kind children’s and baby items, jewelry and women’s clothing, as well as kitchen accessories, home decor, candles and fragrances. Many of the products can be personalized according to customers’ wishes, from baby blankets to kitchen wares.
One of the business’s top-selling items, Smyth said, is an 18-inch by 23.5-inch thick wooden cutting board that her husband engraves. The boards are manufactured specifically for Wink Boutique.
“It is maple wood, and the grain is different on each one, so there is a lot of character,” Smyth said.
Longtime customer Brenda Seidenberger said she has bought several cutting boards as gifts.
“It’s a different gift to give,” she said. “They have really unique wedding gifts. When I go there I buy for myself, too, but normally [I buy] a wedding gift or a gift in general. I get a lot of monogramming done there, too.”
Tracie Stolle, who has been a customer since the store opened, emphasized the quality of the personalizing services offered at Wink Boutique.
“I love this store,” customer Tiffany Smith said. “I’m one of those people who really like personalized gifts. This is a great place to come if you go to a baby shower or a wedding.”
With the school year about to start, Smyth said she monograms countless backpacks and lunchboxes. She said personalized tumblers that keep ice cold are also a hit during the summer.
Other favorites include wine glasses and baby gifts ranging from embroidered bibs to crib blankets, which she sews for fellow church members.
In addition to the couple’s monogrammed items, Smyth said 10 percent of her daughters’ profits are donated to local organizations, including Pflugerville Community Church, which they attend, the Williamson County Humane Society and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
Smyth said she also likes to work with suppliers that give back to the community, such as Bridgewater Candles.
“Every jar candle that we sell feeds a child for a day,” she said. “We also carry Headbands for Hope, where for every headband sold, Dell Children’s [Hospital] gets a headband for a child fighting cancer.”
With a wink and a smile Wink Boutique offers a variety of products and services to personalize gifts.
