With gifts, clothes and spice mixes, Julia Broadway, owner of Sweet Love & Sugar Britches in downtown Round Rock, calls her store a “baby-to-ladies one-stop boutique.”

Broadway started the store in 2003 selling hand-sewn products for children. She soon recognized “women love to shop for their children, but they love even more to shop for themselves,” she said.

She added women’s clothing in unique designs from exclusive lines as well as jewelry, candles, handmade gifts and specialty items.

Broadway said many gifts, such as personalized wedding items or kitchen accessories, feature a Texas or Southern theme.

Customer Missy Berry said she has been drawn to Sweet Love for many years because of the unique products.

“She has a wide variety of items,” Berry said. “If I purchase something from her store, most likely someone else is not going to have it.”

The store also offers small, unique “grab-and-go” gifts for different occasions, Broadway said. Holiday gifts include candy jars for Valentine’s Day, holiday-themed onesies that are embroidered in store and personalized Easter buckets.

Broadway said she likes to support Texas-based companies and sells Texas honey, coffee and spice mixes, soaps and lotions from a Texan goat milk farm, and candles from Tyler.

Customer Sally Hutchinson said she buys clothing at the boutique and likes that it offers items for every age group and taste.

“I’m a senior citizen, and I can find things at the store that I can wear and that look good on me,” Hutchinson said. “But I can also find clothing for my daughter and my granddaughter.”

Sweet Love & Sugar Britches is a family-owned business. Broadway originally founded the store with her mother, and the name is derived from her daughters’ childhood nicknames. Her older daughter, who is enrolled in college, works at the store when she gets a chance.

And even though she is not related to them, her six employees are her family, too, Broadway said.

“I don’t feel like we have employees. They are all family to me,” she said. “I could not do what I do without them.”
