Plans for a new roundabout near CR 137 and FM 1660 in Hutto are in the works, as City Council approved grant funding for the project during a March 12 meeting.

The project, which is being led by the Hutto Economic Development Corporation, includes the construction of a roundabout and additional lanes at the intersection of CR 137 and FM 1660. The project is meant to help traffic flow better along the two roadways.
Road widening, pedestrian improvements and the addition of a center turn lane is also expected for CR 137, running north of Brushy Creek to FM 1660. Some improvements to pedestrian paths and drainage is also planned for a small portion of FM 1660.
In a 4-1 vote, Hutto City Council approved $11.2 million in economic development grant funding for the project. Place 4 City Council member Peter Gordon voted against the measure, citing concerns about “running [the project] through the EDC,” as he said that avenue had not been fully vetted by the city’s legal department.
“I think this is an important project,” he said. “I look forward to having it get done and look forward to our first full-fledged roundabout in the city to see how that works and to see how the citizens like it.”
On March 9, the Hutto EDC board approved a construction contract with Capital Excavation Company. A construction timeline for the project has not been release.
