For anyone who’s driven along the twists, turns and bumps of Cameron Road east of SH 130 in Pflugerville, planned road improvements will likely come with a warm welcome.

The update

Road safety studies are currently underway, according to Evan Groeschel, the city of Pflugerville’s public works operations director, with formal design work slated to begin this fall.

The road improvement project is part of Travis County’s $503 million road and parks bond, Prop A, approved by voters in 2023.

The project will widen a 2-mile stretch of two-lane road without shoulders into a four-lane divided roadway, including a shared-use path from Pecan Street to Fuchs Grove Road.

According to Travis County documents, design work is scheduled to start in fall 2025, with construction expected to begin in spring 2027 and conclude in fall 2028. The total estimated cost of the Cameron Road project is $38.8 million.

Groeschel said the city is working closely with the county, and the city’s safety study and design proposals will be incorporated into the formal engineering plans.

Pflugerville is also collaborating with a design engineer to develop both interim and permanent road configurations at the intersection of East Pecan Street and Cameron Road to address additional safety concerns. The interim solution is planned for implementation before the county’s portion of the project is completed.
