Starting April 7, the speed limit on FM 685 from SH 130 to East Pecan Street in Pflugerville will lower to 45 mph. The change comes after Pflugerville City Council approved two readings of an ordinance to adjust the speed.

The background

Between 2014 and 2024, that strip of FM 685 saw 174 speed-related crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation crash information records. TxDOT also found that the 85th percentile speed in the area is 42 mph, and the top speed is 62 mph.

Pflugerville's transportation plan classify's FM 685 as a major arterial road, and city design standards designates a speed of 50 mph for similar roads.

What happened


City Council approved the final reading of the ordinance to change the speed limit March 27. The new speed will take effect April 7, affecting both north- and southbound traffic.
