The city will hold a groundbreaking event for the project in downtown Hutto on May 31.
When complete, the project will add a dedicated right-turn lane to FM 1660 southbound at the FM 1660 North and US 79 intersection. It will also increase railroad preemption at the intersection to ensure drivers stopped at the intersection are clear of the railroad tracks.
City Engineer Matt Rector said construction could have started as early as May 2 but was intentionally timed to line up with the end of the school year. Completion on the project is expected in late 2023.
City documents state the city has spent a total of $4.2 million on design, construction and materials for the project. The bulk of the funding came from 2018 bond funds and certificates of obligation issued in 2022.
