A previously planned project to repave a section of CR 137 in Hutto is set to push back its start date after expanding its scope to add several improvements to the intersection of CR 137 and FM 1660.

Wade Benton, public works and engineering director, said nearby development has caused congestion at the intersection, which will need to be addressed before repaving the section of CR 137 between FM 1660 and CR 197.

In a presentation at Hutto City Council's Feb. 17 meeting, Benton recommended the addition of a right-turn lane from FM 1660 onto CR 137 as well as a left-turn lane from CR 137 onto FM 1660 and several upgrades to traffic signals and drainage.

The project was originally projected to be complete this year, but a new tentative timeline shows design work beginning this spring and construction starting in fall 2023.

"I know there's going to be some people disappointed in the timing because we budgeted this year, but it needs to be fixed the right way," Mayor Pro Tem Dan Thornton said.
