A new phase of a project to widen Old Austin-Hutto Road in Pflugerville will begin Sept. 1.

Once it starts, Phase 3 will keep all traffic north of Poppy Pass at one-way northbound, but traffic will shift to the east side of the road.

Information from the city states the traffic patterns established in Phase 3 of construction will remain in place until the project concludes, which is planned for February 2022.

City information states the project will widen Old Austin-Hutto Road to a three-lane roadway and includes pavement and drainage improvements.

The updated configuration will include one lane in each direction in addition to a two-way left-turn center lane, and the existing curve at the northern end of the roadway will be replaced with a single-lane roundabout to provide for future connectivity to the north, according to the city.

The $4.22 million Old Austin-Hutto Road project is funded through the city's 2018 general obligation bond program.
