Digital investment firm Ubiquity announced it will invest $20M in Hutto to build an open-access fiber internet network.

Ubiquity recently announced similar investments in Georgetown and Killeen.

Ubiquity will lease out the network to various internet service providers, such as FiberFirst, which will be the first provider to offer service through the network, according to a press release.

"As connectivity needs continue to increase, these high-capacity, build-once and connect-all fiber networks will provide both added choice for customers and a fast track to additional smart city digital infrastructure," Ubiquity Managing Director Greg Dial said in the press release.

Dial said Ubiquity is in the process of engineering the final design for the network with plans to break ground in the next few months. He said the first customers are expected to start receiving service by the end of the summer.
