Pflugerville-area cardiac patients now have more comprehensive services right in their own community.
What you need to know
Recent investments at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Pflugerville are going toward more comprehensive cardiac care, with more advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities.
The details
Dr. Raul Mercado Garcia, a cardiologist at the Pflugerville medical center, said the facility recently opened a new cardiovascular lab. The new lab allows patients to receive advanced procedures such as angiograms, as well as device implantations locally. These on-site services allow the hospital to avoid transferring patients out to other facilities for care, as well as increase the capacity to treat a larger number of patients.
What they're saying
"I have seen patients here just today that were like, 'This hospital's just five minutes from my house,'" Garcia said. "They're they're just happy that they can get this service pretty close to where they live."
What's next?
The hospital is also working to add STEMI care, Garcia said, which would allow the hospital to treat patients experiencing severe heart attacks in Pflugerville, rather than transferring them to the hospital system's Round Rock medical center for care.
