How it happened
In the inaugural year of the program, Pflugerville applied for the tourism friendly designation and completed the multistep certification process. The process includes filing a letter of intent, completing a self assessment, an online training and a final interview, all within the same year.
Travel Texas is a part of the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, and has a mission to boost local economies by promoting Texas as a top travel destination to out-of-state and international visitors, according to a news release.
What else?
Pflugerville has several tourism initiatives, including its art in public places program, created to build city identity, attract visitors, facilitate relationships with local artists and enhance public spaces for residents, according to city documents. The program features street murals, like the newest "Flight of the Pollinator Planes," and outdoor sculptures.
The city also has holds the title of Texas' trail capital. Pflugerville's 56-mile trail system allows 94.8% of residents to have direct trail access within half-a-mile of their home, according to Explore Pflugerville.
