In fiscal year 2023-24, the city of Hutto worked on 61 Capital Improvement Plan projects across the transportation, water, wastewater and parks and recreation departments.

The gist

City Engineer Matt Rector presented a recap of Hutto’s progress on CIP projects at the first meeting of fiscal year 2024-25. According to Rector, there were a total of 61 projects, including 54 “true” projects and seven studies, analyses or plans.

Of the 61 total projects, the city completed 20.

Zooming in

The last year was an especially busy one for Hutto, Rector said, because there were virtually no projects being worked in 2022 and 2023.

“I think we made a lot of progress, especially when you consider for two years we weren’t really doing much.”

Completed projects include approving the South Wastewater Treatment Plant capacity rerate and expansion, which the city broke ground on in August. The fencing at Fritz Park was also completed last year as well as the Hutto Lake Park dock.

Crews completed side walk reconstruction throughout Hutto as well as repairs to CR 199 and a turn lane project on Hwy. 79.

Looking ahead

With City Council passing the FY 2024-25 budget and tax rate Sept. 12, city officials are now looking at using the available funding for new projects. There are 41 CIP projects carried over from last year and an 18 more have been added, including a drainage master plan and American Disability Act transition plan.

“We’re gonna try to keep on pace and see if we can match what we did last year,” Rector said.
