Pflugerville City Council approved $230,000 in improvements May 28 for the city-maintained Wells Point Sports Park Athletic Fields.

The gist

This project involves removing the current grass, leveling the ground, reinstalling irrigation heads and laying down about 170,000 square feet of TifTuf Bermuda sod on several fields. TifTuf Bermuda grass is specially designed for heavy use at sports facilities, according to city documents.

The contract was awarded to Ryan Sanders Sports Services, LLC., the same contractor that completed similar renovations to other fields in the park last year.

The work is anticipated to take a total of 12 business days, according to the contract.

What else?

These park improvements are a part of the city’s 2023-27 capital improvement plan, with a total of $979,705 set aside for Wells Point Park renovations, according to city documents. The remaining funding will be used for other infrastructure updates and brought to council at a later date. They include plans for new fencing, restroom and concessions improvements.

Currently, the park is home to 10 soccer fields, available for public use via reservation.
