Hutto ISD is continuing on schedule and under budget on projects to renovate Hutto High School and convert the Ninth Grade Center to a second comprehensive high school, a construction update shared in January shows.
What you need to know
In a Jan. 29 update on capital improvement projects underway in the district from Sledge Engineering, the firm managing the 2023 bond program, company President Casey Sledge said the high school renovations are nearing the last few projects, and the NGC conversion is progressing "rapidly."
HHS renovations are being managed by Pfluger Architects and Chaney-Cox Construction. The NGC conversion is being managed by VLK Architects and Joeris General Contractors.
The details
At HHS, Sledge said the new competition gym and fine arts lobby are set to open in March, as the new autobody shop is also nearing completion. HISD will transition students in this career and technology program into the new shop over spring break, he said.
Trustees also approved a measure to replace weight room equipment in the high school's older gym and fieldhouse Jan. 29, to ensure equity between this campus and the new high school, once it opens.
At the NGC, several structures are now vertical. Sledge said framing for the main gym is nearly complete, with concrete work for other parts of the campus underway. Crews are also working on athletic facilities for the campus, he said.
Completion at both campuses is planned for 2027.
