Pflugerville ISD officials broke ground Nov. 18 on what will be the district's central career and technical education facility near Killingsworth Lane.

The facility is funded by the 2022 bond.

What happened

Students, administrators and district officials held a ceremony to mark the start of work to construct a career and technical education facility to provide hands-on education preparing students for enrollment in higher education, employment upon graduation or enlistment in the military.

Speakers at the ceremony included Superintendent Quintin Shepherd, board of trustees President Chevonne Lorigo-Johst and future CTE center Principal Daniel Garcia.

What they're saying

"This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with access to hands-on learning environments and real-world experiences that prepare them not only for graduation, but also for life," Lorigo-Johst said. "Whether a student chooses to pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or serve our country, they deserve opportunities that equip them for success."

The details

The $76 million facility will provide a variety of opportunities for students to earn industry certifications and plan for higher education, district officials said. The center will offer programming across a variety of industries, such as health science, automotive technology, culinary arts, information technology and engineering.

It will also offer community workforce training after hours and flexible meeting spaces for use by industry partners and community trainings.

The CTE Center is expected to open in fall 2027, according to the district.
