What you need to know
Trustees approved a $91,000 contract, ultimately not to exceed $140,000, with Lockwood Andrews and Newman, Inc.
C.J. Lowery, HISD's chief of schools, said the firm would communicate with community members as well as analyze existing facilities and programming to determine what the district will need in coming years.
Long-range facilities planning is distinct from planning for a future bond, Lowery said, although the findings of a long-range facilities plan can be used to inform potential bond planning in the future.
What they're saying
Lowery highlighted the district's fast growth and changing needs of businesses in the community, with significant change in the technology sector since the district's last long-range facilities plan in 2022.
"Things are changing business-wise in our community day after day," Lowery said. "It's something to look at, in terms of what are the jobs that are going to be offered consistently in our area, in terms of careers."
What's next?
Lowery said LAN is set to complete the facilities plan by March.
