The board of trustees approved an application for the Optional Flexible School Day Program during its July 18 meeting.
How it works
According to agenda documents, the district must submit an application to the Texas Education Agency each year in order to continue the program, which includes an implementation plan description, staff plans, school schedules, student attendance accounting and security procedures.
The program started at PACE, the district’s alternative high school, during the 2023-24 school year. Students at the Provan Opportunity Center or the district’s other high schools who are experiencing temporary life or medical issues can also participate.
The program allows the school to offer flexible school hours and days for students who meet specific requirements, such as those at risk of dropping out or have dropped out, or those who might lose course credit due to attendance issues.
By the numbers
Per agenda documents, during the program’s inaugural year at PACE in 2023-24:
- 114 students enrolled and earned a total of 1,427 credits
- 33 students graduated
- 15 students withdrew
- 12 students dropped out
- 5 students returned to a high school
