Hutto ISD officials will provide an update on campus safety and security initiatives for the upcoming 2023-24 school year at an Aug. 10 board meeting.

In a nutshell

District officials said they will give community members an update on safety and security initiatives mandated under new laws passed in recent legislative sessions Aug. 10 during a July 27 board meeting.

The specifics

Several initiatives were passed by Texas lawmakers this year, including:
  • HB 3: requires armed security guards on all charter and public school campuses
  • SB 838: requires silent panic alert devices in all public and charter school classrooms by the 2025-26 school year
What they're saying

"The big topic of course has to do with the arming of a resource officer at every campus," HISD Police Chief William Edwards said July 27. "That'll be a discussion point for us, but we will give you an update at that point in time."
