Hutto's planned third middle school is set to move into its next design phase.

After receiving a presentation on the proposed schematic design for the district's new middle school at its May 12 meeting, the HISD board of trustees approved the design at a meeting May 25.

With the schematic design approved, designer VLK Architects can move into the design development phase, where it will revise and expand on the schematic design to make it a more detailed, comprehensive plan for the project.

According to a presentation from VLK, the firm expects to start seeking a construction contractor in October. Construction is projected to be complete in fall 2024.

Hutto's third middle school will be located just south of Kerley Elementary School and will have a capacity of 1,200 students.

Funding for the school will come largely from a $194 million bond approved in 2019.
