The Hutto ISD board of trustees approved the creation of five new positions across the district at an April 28 meeting.

The positions are a lead technician, a communications specialist and three teachers.

The lead technician will manage repairs and maintenance on the district's transportation fleet, while the communications specialist will distribute information on district activities to the public.

Of the three teacher positions, one is a kindergarten teacher at Veterans' Hill Elementary School and two are teacher positions at Hutto High School that can be used for any core subject or foreign language.

"They're not assigned to a subject area because it gives [HHS Principal Jonathan Smith] the flexibility to determine which subject area that he needs the most," Superintendent Celina Estrada Thomas said.

In total, the five positions are expected to create additional expenses between $279,000 and $324,000, according to a district presentation.
