Texas State Library and Archives Commissions breaks ground on $210M facility in Pflugerville

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission, in partnership with the Texas Facilities Commission, broke ground on a $210 million archival and records storage facility in Pflugerville this week.

Overview

The 242,000-square-foot facility will house the commission’s State and Local Record Management Division, Archives and Information Services Divisions and the Talking Book Program, according to a news release.

The center will replace the existing storage facility on Shoal Creek Boulevard in Austin, and construction is expected to wrap up by the fall of 2027. The project was funded by the 88th Texas Legislature.

In addition to housing agency offices, the center will double the commission’s storage capacity while reserving space for future growth on the new site on Riggins Bend Road in Pflugerville.

“The new facility will allow TSLAC to expand our work to ensure the preservation of the state’s rich legacy of historical records, as well as supporting more than 150 state agencies, 10,000 units of local government, researchers, readers with disabilities and Texans in every corner of the state,” said TSLAC Director and Librarian Gloria Meraz.

Hutto pickle ball courts coming to Riverwalk Park

New pickleball courts in Hutto, originally planned for Creekside Park, will now be built in Riverwalk Soccer Field Park. Hutto City Council approved an increased scope of work for the project at its meeting May 1.

The details

The total estimated budget for the pickleball courts is $1.6 million, which includes two to four courts, according to city documents.

City Council passed an individual project order for survey and geotechnical professional services that contractor Clark Condon determined necessary after the initial design phase.

The contractor found the original location at Creekside Park unsuitable after site evaluations due to its proximity to residential homes and potential noise impacts.

Affordable housing project coming to Pflugerville

Branchview Apartments, an affordable housing initiative in Pflugerville, will move forward with construction after receiving approval from Travis County Commissioners Court on May 20 for Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

The breakdown

Located at 14411 Immanuel Road, Pflugerville, in unincorporated Travis County, Branchview Apartments will include 330 units with an estimated rent of $1,250 to $1,592. These rates amount to 24% lower than the average market rate for other rental prices in the same zip code.

Although the development has a Pflugerville address, the area is not incorporated into the city, meaning the county has ultimate jurisdiction.
