A 10.5-acre plot in Pflugerville will remain undeveloped after Pflugerville City Council voted against rezoning it for residential use.

The details

The land, which sits on 1917 and 1931 Rowe Loop, is currently reserved for agriculture and development use. According to the rezoning request, the land would be used to infill single-family homes.

This rezoning request is consistent with the area and supported by the majority of the planning and zoning commission, according to Planning & Development Services Director Jeremy Frazzell.

What else?

This kind of rezoning request requires a public hearing. Pflugerville resident Beverly Darilek, whose home neighbors the plot, has been living in the area since 1992 and opposed the rezoning.

“This is a very, in my opinion, historic area,” she said. “It was very unique by having the 5-acre lots. That’s why we bought there.”

Adil Malik, whose family owns the property and land, said he's spoken with a builder who proposed a plan for residential subddivision. The surrounding area is zoned as a mix of single-family residential, single-family mixed use, agriculture-development reserve and commercial.

The outcome

City Council voted against the ordinance with a 4-3 majority. Mayor Victor Gonzales, Place 2 City Council member Cesar Ruiz, Place 4 City Council member Rudy Metayer and Place 6 City Council member David Rogers voted against the measure.
