The second phase of renovations for the Wilbarger Creek Park on Kingston Lacy Boulevard in Pflugerville is in full swing, with construction anticipated to be complete by the fall of this year, according to an update from the city May 22.

The overview

In phase two, the city has focused on developing the south side of the park near Cascades Avenue. The improvements include new walking trails, connection to existing trails, an open lawn amphitheater, parking and stormwater drainage components.

The project was initially approved by Pflugerville City Council in 2019, with an initial move to replace the out-dated play equipment.

Today, nearly $7 million has been allocated for neighborhood parks, like Wilbarger Creek, according to city documents, with a total of $42.3 million in bond funding approved for for parks and recreation projects in 2020.

The cost of both phase one and two of the Wilbarger Creek Park project is estimated at $3.7 million, according to city staff.

The next phase of renovations indicate plans for a dog park, outdoor classroom, sensory garden and dry creek bend, according to city documents.

What else?

The park’s improvements support the city’s recent push to “keep building more parks,” Place 1 City Council member Doug Weiss previously told Community Impact. The city of Pflugerville adopted its 10-year Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan in September 2023.
