Original story

Early voting results for the May 7 Hutto City Council election have Randal Clark and Amberley Kolar in the lead for council Places 3 and 6, respectively.

Clark leads Ida Weaver with 695 votes to 448, and Kolar is in front of Nicole Calderone with 618 votes to 493.

Neither place has an incumbent candidate. Place 3 Council Member Mandi Villarreal Salvo is running for mayor rather than re-election to her current seat, and former Place 6 Council Member Tanner Rose resigned from council in January.

Weaver is a retired engineer with experience in scientific research, economic development and homeless ministry. She also served on the most recent Hutto City Charter Commission. If elected, Weaver said her top priorities will be improving transparency and accountability within the city and maintaining a “no-new-revenue” tax rate.

Clark is a senior engineering manager in the semiconductor industry who has previously served on the planning and zoning commission, the zoning board of adjustment and the Hutto Economic Development Corp. Clark said one of his top priorities as a council member would be bringing in businesses such as an in-town grocery store and upscale restaurants.

Kolar is a legislative director with a master's degree in global security studies. Kolar identified her top priority as working with the county to ensure Hutto has the necessary roads and infrastructure to handle future growth.

Calderone has experience as a food and beverage coordinator and homeowners association president. If elected, Calderone said she will focus on spending conservatively and creating a five-year budget forecast to help maintain a lean budget.
