Original story:

The race for the newly redrawn Texas House of Representatives District 50 shows James Talarico, D-Austin, leading against David Alcorta in early voting results.

So far, Talarico has 5,151, or about 80% of the vote to Alcorta's 1,253 votes.

District 50 only has a race in 2022 Democratic primary, and the winner will square off against Republican Victor Johnson in the November 2022 general election.

Talarico is the Texas District 52 representative, but he announced he would run in District 50 after his district was redrawn in 2021.

Celia Israel, D-Austin, represents District 50 but will not run again once her term ends in January 2023. Her district covers an area that includes parts of Northwest Austin, Pflugerville, and east Austin.

Once the redistricting kicks in Jan. 10, 2023, District 50 will cover a smaller area that includes parts of Pflugerville, as well as north and east Austin.
