Toll roads, new lanes: 6 Austin metro transportation project updates

Upcoming projects

New Hope Drive expansion

Project: The traffic changes come as the city is working to expand New Hope Drive from four to six lanes and open an innovative intersection design at New Hope Drive and 183A Toll. The expansion will span from the west end of New Hope Drive near Whitestone Boulevard to Lakeline Boulevard.

Update: According to the city of Cedar Park, the project is in the design phase.

• Cost: $1.8 million
• Funding source: 2022 transportation bond

SE Inner Loop

Project: The project will widen 2.91 miles of SE Inner Loop in Georgetown to a four-lane, divided road from Hwy. 29 to FM 1460, and add a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicycles on one side.

Update: According to the city of Georgetown, the project is in the design phase, with real estate acquisition and utility relocation ongoing.

Ongoing projects

183A Toll frontage roads

Project: This project will add two lanes on either side of 183A Toll from East Whitestone Boulevard to Avery Ranch Boulevard.

Update: According to the city of Cedar Park, construction is underway to build north and southbound frontage roads along 183A.

• Timeline: expected completion fall 2027
• Cost: $139 million
• Funding source: Texas Department of Transportation

Little Walnut Creek Flood Risk Reduction (Phase 4)

Project: The project will reduce the risk of flooding along Little Walnut Creek and divert floodwaters from the creek to underground culverts, expand a stormwater detention pond, replace and upgrade water and wastewater lines, and add a shared-use path.

Update: According to Austin Capital Delivery Services, Phase 4 completed in December, including completion of stormwater and wastewater infrastructure in the road and paving of the project. The contractor is now working on cleanup and restoration of the park staging area and detention pond at Quail Creek Neighborhood Park.

• Cost: $28.8 million
• Funding source: drainage charge, 2018 drainage bonds and Austin Water
