1. Bond election for Round Rock ISD

Early voting in Round Rock ISD's $572.09 million bond election continues until Tuesday, and election day is scheduled for Saturday, May 6. Campaigns in support of and in opposition to the district's bond package have been busy in the lead-up to the election. Here is a rundown of how RRISD schools in Northwest Austin might be affected.

2. RRISD picked for first Holdsworth Center cohort 

Last week RRISD was among seven Texas school districts invited to be part of the inaugural cohort at the nonprofit Holdsworth Center. The Austin-based education leadership institute will work with school district superintendents, principals and administrators to develop skills aimed at improving the quality of public education in the state. Read more here.

3. Lanier High School students can get college credit

The Texas Education Agency has approved the conversion of three Austin ISD high schools to early college high schools, including Lanier High School in North Austin. The conversion allows Lanier students to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time with no additional cost. Other AISD high schools in the program, administered through Austin Community College, include Crockett, Eastside Memorial, LBJ, Reagan and Travis.

4. Neighborhood meeting on CodeNEXT

The Northwest Austin Coalition, led by Austin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan of District 6, hosts a neighborhood meeting Sunday to provide information on the recently released CodeNEXT preliminary maps. The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at the District 6 field office, 10401 Anderson Mill Road, Ste. 101, Austin. CodeNEXT maps, which show how Austin’s land development code rewrite might affect area neighborhoods, were released April 18 in draft form.

5. Small Business Festival 

Austin's Small Business Festival takes place Monday through Friday at various locations around the city. Speakers will lead workshops on a variety of topics, including starting or growing a small business, financing, social media and leadership strategies.
