AISD superintendent search continues; interim projected to be named in December

At a Dec. 1 meeting, staff and the Austin ISD board of trustees—including the three newly elected members—reaffirmed plans to name a new permanent superintendent by summer 2023 and a new interim superintendent in December.

The update follows interim Superintendent Anthony Mays' Nov. 10 announcement that he would leave the district for a position in Houston.

Mays continues to serve as interim superintendent through the end of the year.

An interim superintendent is projected to be named by Dec. 15 and will start by Jan. 3, Trustee Arati Singh announced during the meeting. The application for interested candidates recently closed and will be reviewed throughout the week.

The public is invited to attend listening sessions over the next few days and provide feedback to the trustees. Virtual sessions are scheduled for Dec. 2 and Dec. 5. An in-person session will be held Dec. 3 in the AISD boardroom.
