What we reported

In 2016, Round Rock ISD’s board of trustees planned for forecasted growth in the next several years. RRISD’s total student headcount, which was 47,645 students in 2015-16, is projected to top 50,000 by 2022-23, according to the district.

The latest

RRISD moved forward with plans to build a new middle school and a new high school on Pearson Ranch Road in Austin. In December, a decision to redraw middle school attendance boundaries with Pearson Ranch Middle School expected to open in August drew heated opposition from some parents.

What’s next

The district needs to figure out how to pay for what would be its sixth high school. A proposed bond election in May is one option. Trustees have until Feb. 17 to call the election, and a citizens bond committee was created last fall to begin analyzing projects and programs that would be included in a bond proposal.
