Round Rock ISD trustees will discuss a design proposal for what will be the district's sixth high school during a board workshop Nov. 1, according to a meeting agenda released Friday.

This summer, district officials selected a site off Pearson Ranch Road for the new high school. The location is near the existing Elsa England Elementary School and the future Pearson Ranch Middle School set to open before the 2017-18 school year.

According to RRISD materials made available Friday, a preliminary proposal calls for a 481,513-square-foot facility able to support more than 2,600 students. The new high school, which has yet to be named, could be built in phases and be able to open in time for the 2019-20 school year. The total cost of construction is projected at $150 million, according to the proposal.

A proposed site design, developed by the architecture and design firms O'Connell Robertson and DLR Group, shows a dual-winged building connected by a common area.

The proposal indicates the high school could have space for performing arts, science and career technical education programs in addition to classrooms, dining and kitchen facilities, a media center and an auditorium. The proposal states that plans are preliminary and subject to change as the design process moves forward.

RRISD is still considering funding sources for the new high school, including a potential 2017 bond package, which could also include funding for a proposed indoor aquatic facility along with other capital improvements and educational programs.

A 2017 citizen bond committee, which will provide input to trustees on what to include in a potential bond, held its first meeting Thursday, according to RRISD.

Trustees have a Feb. 17 deadline to call for a bond election, which would take place May 6.

RRISD's last bond package, approved by voters in 2014, put $299 million toward improvements at four of the district's high schools and paid for the new Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School and the future Pearson Ranch Middle School.
