Old Alley Hot Pot is a mala—meaning numbing and spicy—communal dining experience utilizing peppercorns, red chilies and Chinese spices inspired by the Sichuan province in China, according to a news release.
The restaurant serves meat such as beef, lamb, honeycomb tripe and duck gizzards cooked in house-made broths including classic beef tallow, pork bone or a vegan tomato-based broth.
Other hot pot add-ins include noodles, wood ear mushrooms, lotus root, Japanese yams and tribute vegetables. The menu also features Sichuan street snacks such as brown sugar rice cakes, deep fried pork bites and Chengdu fried rice.
The restaurant is operated by Austin-based dim sum eatery Mian & Bao, and has another location in Houston.
