In our July 2016 issue, we featured Reale’s Pizza Cafe and its famous pepperoni pizza, which is known for inducing labor. Reale’s is just one of many pizza joints in the Northwest Austin area. Although other restaurants may not have pizzas with special powers, they do offer diners the opportunity to try pizzas that are classic and innovative. Here is a sample of a few local specialty pies to try.
1. Cook’s Spicy Special
Inspired by the chefs in the kitchen, the Cook’s Spicy Special pizza ($11-$22) is one of two customer favorites at Brick Oven, said Donnie Johnson, who co-owns the restaurant with Stan Adams. The pie is topped with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, spiced beef, onions, green peppers, jalapenos, Roma tomatoes, mozzarella and Romano cheese.

Known for its “create-your-own” concept, Flaming Pizza also has a number of specialty pies, including the Bacon n’ Shrooms ($8.29). The 11-inch, thin-crust pizza uses a house-made white cream sauce for its base and is topped with mozzarella, mushrooms, Applewood-smoked bacon, garlic and fresh arugula. Co-owner Michael Lee said customers can also add ingredients for no extra charge.
