Metis Capital LLC and the van Veggel Family Office announced in a news release Nov. 7 that it will open Austin Padel Center in North Austin's Sheldon Cove development next year.

The details

Padel is a racket-based sport that combines strategies from tennis and squash, per the news release.

Representatives for the business said the 22,000-square-foot sports facility will feature:
  • Six indoor and three outdoor climate-controlled padel courts
  • A recovery lounge
  • Locker rooms
  • A pro shop
  • A sports bar
  • Private meeting rooms
The facility will replace the current Wonderspaces space and join other businesses in the development such as Mesa Rim Climbing Gym.

“After decades developing real estate and operating sports businesses—many centered on racket sports—we’re thrilled to bring the Padel Center brand to Austin with the support of Metis Capital,” said Benno van Veggel, founder of van Veggel Family Office and Austin Padel Center. “Our vision is to make Austin Padel Center a true destination where sport, community, and culture intersect."

Something to note

A temporary pop-up facility will open in Building 2 of the development in February ahead of the facility's completion and grand opening in Building 4 in mid-2026.
