1. Median home price surges nearly 75% for area of Northwest Austin in May

The latest data from Unlock MLS shows home sales were down across the Northwest Austin market in May, with several ZIP codes seeing longer average days spent on the market.

The median home sales price in ZIP code 78727 in the McNeil area declined 19.6% year over year in May, while the number of homes sold increased 4.6% in the same timeframe.

Meanwhile, the median price of homes sold in the Anderson Mill and Jester areas in ZIP code 78750 increased 74.4% year over year in May from $429,000 to $748,000.

2. 6 hospital system updates for the Northwest Austin area

Ascension Seton Northwest Hospital was certified in Total Hip and Total Knee Arthroplasty by The Joint Commission in mid-June, according to a news release.

In addition to the recent designation, there are plans for the hospital to add another daVinci 5 robot to its lineup, bringing the hospital’s total to four once launched in the fall.

Farther north, Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus elevated its trauma certification in April and is now an advanced trauma center, making it one of only three Level 3 pediatric trauma centers in Texas, per a news release.

4. Austin to withdraw from longtime Chinese sister city partnership under new state law

Austin will be forced to exit its nearly three-decade-long cultural and economic partnership with a southern Chinese prefecture under a new state law passed this spring.


Austin keeps up several international relationships through its Sister and Friendship Cities Program, meant to support the city's presence on the global stage. Today, Austin's Sister Cities span North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

While Texas formally encourages sister city initiatives, a new law signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 20 will require Austin to withdraw from its longtime partnership with Xishuangbanna, China, this fall.
