Construction is still continuing at Domain Northside, where 11 retail stores are opening their doors in May.
Opening Saturday is consumer technology retailer
b8ta at 11701 Domain Blvd., Ste. 174, Austin. The store offers customers the chance to experience new products, such as earbuds, electric skateboards, wearables, smart-home items and interactive children’s toys.
“It’s about this element of discovery of new products and ultimately having the opportunity to buy,” said Phillip Raub, b8ta’s co-founder and chief marketing officer.
The Domain Northside store marks the San Francisco-based company’s fourth location and the first outside of the West Coast.
Instead of makers selling products to the retailer, b8ta charges makers a subscription fee to showcase items in the store, Raub said. Makers then keep 100 percent of profits from products sold at b8ta.
B8ta also tracks data for makers, such as how well a product sold at a certain price and how many users tried out a product, Raub said. This empowers makers to control how they sell their products, he said.
“If we create a better relationship with the maker ultimately it creates a better relationship with the consumer,” he said.
Raub said b8ta is also talking to several Austin tech companies interested in displaying products in the Domain Northside store.
B8ta is hosting an opening day celebration May 20 from 1-4 p.m.
The event is free and includes free food from General Tso’Boy, beer, wine and free swag, such as T-shirts, ball caps and tote bags. Local artist Cade Sheldon performs from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
The store is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. For more information call 512-766-4149 or visit
