Filmmakers from Northwest Austin-based production company, X Horn Productions, took home multiple awards following the premiere of their film, “My Ranger,” at The Austin Revolution Film Festival on Saturday.

The film was nominated for eight awards and won the title for “Best Soundtrack” and two awards for “Best Texas Feature.” For a film to be considered a “Texas Feature,” the filmmaker must be from Texas. For this award, a panel of judges made one selection and the audience voted for another. “My Ranger” won both.

The movie is the second installment of X Horn Production’s “Milwood Trilogy,” named for the Northwest Austin neighborhood in which the majority of filming takes place.

The Austin Revolution Film Festival began five years ago as an effort to screen more American and international indie films, create networking opportunities for filmmakers and recognize some of the best talent in the indie film industry. With more than 10 award categories containing several nominations each, the festival draws entries from beyond the Austin area.

X Horn Productions local connections proved an advantage in creating the award winning soundtrack. “My Ranger” includes music from local artists, including Shinyribs, Cotton Mather, Built by Snow and White Label Analog.

“Even our lead actor provided some music for us so it really fits with the theme and the mood," Reyes said. "We went for an '80s, John Hughes kind of vibe and the songs that we found really nailed that mood. They're great songs, they're all original and they're all Austin musicians.”

Reyes said the audience-chosen “Best Texas Feature” award was particularly special to the crew at X Horn Productions.

“To have an audience award for best Texas feature, it means so much to us because this is who we made it for,” Reyes said.
