On Nov. 17, Austin ISD families should expect delays to their morning commute due to a funeral procession for Austin Police Officer Jorge "George" Pastore, who was killed while on duty Nov. 11.

In a message emailed to district families Nov. 16, AISD officials said they anticipate elementary bus routes to be largely unaffected by the funeral procession, but secondary students may experience delays.

Tardiness caused by this will be excused Nov. 17, but absences will not be excused. Campus leadership will arrive earlier than normal for secondary students.

The procession will depart at 8 a.m. from the Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, and head northbound on Mopac Expressway, going around the city by heading southbound on US 183 toward I-35, passing the Austin Police Department Headquarters toward the Texas State Capitol. Then, the procession will head to the Circuit of the Americas, where public visitation will be held until 11 a.m. and the funeral service will begin.

The public is invited to line the route, and all roadways along the route will be shut down to any traffic until the full processional line passes.
