The details
The new facility spans 8,500 square feet and features a 160‐seat theatre, specially designed to host full‐scale productions.
“From summer camps to full‐scale musicals and plays, we’ve built this space to fully support our mission—to nurture confidence, imagination and growth through theatre in a supportive and fun environment,” Executive Director Tiffany Williams said in a statement.
The children’s theater group offers a variety of classes and camps for children ages 3-19, with a strong emphasis on fun and fostering a supportive environment, according to the company’s website.
The studio is known for its positive impact on students, helping them develop not only acting skills but also valuable life skills like teamwork and communication.
Students meet once a week at one of 12 locations across the Austin area to rehearse, then head to the theater for dress rehearsals and live performances. Each production comes to life with the help of local, award-winning designers and artists who craft the sets, costumes, props, lighting and sound, a news release states.
Behind the scenes
Founded in 1980 by Dede Clark as a small theatre off Burnet Road, kidsActing began by offering performing arts opportunities to young people in Austin.
After being displaced from its original Burnet Road location—now home to a Walgreens—it relocated to a larger East Austin theatre, expanding its programming and launching a nonprofit arm to serve children from all backgrounds, according to Williams.
When that East Austin space was sold for redevelopment in 2022, kidsActing remained committed to its mission. Following two years of planning and collaboration, the organization opened its new theatre designed to serve Austin as well as surrounding communities, including Leander, Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs, Oak Hill and more.
