Old Thousand, a Chinese eatery, is closing on Burnet Road after more than three years in business.

Old Thousand launched a second location serving its trademark "dope Chinese" fare in North Austin in September 2020. That space is now expected to close in early December, in part due to rising costs, according to an update from the Old Thousand team.

"Considerable setbacks this year have made moving forward at this location untenable, namely the catastrophic failure of major equipment and the pending 80% increase in the renewal of our lease," a November email from Old Thousand states. "We are so thankful for everyone who has supported us over the past few years, and we’d love to see you all again to celebrate OT’s journey."

The restaurant's original location at 1000 E. 11th St. will remain open. Old Thousand officials said there are plans to extend that restaurant's operating hours and menu, and begin hosting more parties and pop-up events.

"We hope you continue to join us for the ride. In this business the future is always uncertain, but we firmly believe that dope Chinese food will never go out of style and that our best years are ahead of us," the email states.
