The intersection at the 3400 block of Redbud Trail, Austin, by Red Bud Isle, is one of the area’s top crash locations and sits on Austin Transportation Department’s June 2016 priority list for improvements.
An update on the project lists the top six intersections that have been identified to move forward from the city’s 2016 Mobility Bond and does not include this Westlake-area intersection.
"It is too early to know if [Redbud Trail] will be one of 15-18 intersections [on the list] to receive funding,” spokesperson Marissa Monroy said. “As far as any improvement is concerned, we’d have to do an in-depth crash analysis at the location first."
Although Redbud Trail has not been identified yet for a study, all 28 intersections on Austin’s Top Crash Location Intersection Priorities list will be studied, she said.
Which intersections are slated for improvement so far?
The $15 million budget for the fatality reduction projects stems from Austin’s 2016 Mobility Bond, and Monroy said construction is set to begin this summer on the first three intersection projects:
- Pleasant Valley Road/Elmont Drive
- Slaughter Lane/S. First Street
- South Congress Avenue/Oltorf Street
The next three projects are currently being studied. Monroy said these include:
- East Riverside Drive/Tinnin Ford Road
- North I-35 Frontage Road/Braker Lane
- 45th Street/Red River Street
