According to the filing, McMillan is seeking a hand, or manual, recount based on the following reasons:
  • There is a difference between number of votes received by petitioner and number of votes received by person who was elected or is entitled to a place on the runoff election ballot is less than 10 percent of the number of votes received by the person elected or entitled to a place on the runoff ballot; OR
  • Electronic systems were used in the election.
She attached a petition to the filing listing 31 names in support of the recount and is requesting a recount of early voting as well as tabulations in Lakeway precincts 306, 308, 319, 320, 324, 346, 359 and 373. According to Aleshire, the signatures of 25 registered voters are needed to trigger a recount, along with other procedural requirements. “I understand a recount probably won't change the outcome but I want to know we've done everything we can to ensure an honest election,” McMillan said. “With only eight votes making the difference, many residents have come forward asking me to initiate a recount, and I think this is the right and good thing for me to do for the community.” Although McMillan lost to incumbents Bridge Bertram and Ron Massa for a seat on Lakeway’s council, she garnered 30.62 percent of the total votes cast in the race. The filing was hand-delivered to Lakeway Mayor Joe Bain at 1:47 p.m. today, according to the filed documents. The city of Lakeway confirmed to Community Impact Newspaper that Aleshire's request for a recount of the Proposition 1 election results had been received. Lakeway City Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing Road, Lakeway. The agenda includes a canvassing of the May election results.
