1. 35th Street underground electrical service

With electrical service upgrades to the Davis Water Treatment Plant, 3500 W. 35th St., slated to be completed in mid-December, all lanes will be open beginning Dec. 17. Crews will then begin installing new sidewalk from Foothill Drive to Hillview Road. The project entails construction of electrical feeders under 35th from Austin Energy’s Warren substation near Camp Mabry to the Davis Water Treatment Plant, which will help maintain reliable delivery of drinking water to Austin Water utility customers.

2. Colorado Street reconstruction

Work began in late November on the southbound lanes of Colorado Street between 10th and Eighth streets. That stretch is reduced to a single lane during the current phase of construction. The lane closure allows for the installation of a new storm drain and water and wastewater lines, wider sidewalks, and curb and gutter fixes as well as street reconstruction. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of January.

3. North Lamar Boulevard/Burnet Road safety improvement project

The city of Austin has identified $75.8 million worth of improvements needed for   North Lamar Boulevard from US 183 to I-35 and $77 million worth of improvements on  Burnet Road from Koenig Lane/RM 2222 to MoPac. This summer the city will start construction on the first projects funded from the 2012 bond. New sidewalks will be added along both Burnet and North Lamar, although exact locations have not yet been identified.
