The Brazoria County Fair is in full swing.


Get your boots and cowboy hat ready this week for the Brazoria County Fair in Angleton. The fair will host events including livestock competitions, calf scrambles, live music and a barbecue cookoff through Oct. 23. The 120-acre fairgrounds are at 901 S. Downing St. in Angleton.

The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation is coming to Pearland.


Join the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Pearland Parks and Recreation Department for a kickoff event to celebrate the city becoming the home for the TAAF 2018 and 2019 winter games. The event will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium at 4141 Bailey Road.

The Pearland Chamber of Commerce will host its 11th annual Elected Officials Meet & Greet for the public to meet local representatives. The function will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at 6117 Broadway St. in Pearland.

Friendswood ISD will celebrate the opening of its museum.


The district will celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Friendswood School Museum, which will preserve and showcase FISD memorabilia from 1939-70. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Old Junior High School at the corner of West Spreading Oaks Block and Laurel Drive.

The Pearland ISD Education Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the school district, will host its third annual Grown-Up Spelling Bee, which includes a silent auction, concessions and a photo booth. Tickets are $10. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Turner High School auditorium. All proceeds benefit the foundation.
