Visitors to the Austin Zoo will soon be able to catch glimpses of three cougar cubs recently rescued from the Pacific Northwest, Executive Director Patti Clark said. Because the cubs are only a few months old, viewing opportunities for the public will be limited at first and will begin Dec. 26, Clark said. On Dec. 26 visitors will be able to view the cubs for one hour, starting around 12:30 p.m. Austin Zoo cougar cubs Three cougar cubs—Oliver, Willow and Roxy—are among the latest newcomers to Austin Zoo, located on Rawhide Trail in Southwest Austin.[/caption] The private, nonprofit zoo's mission is to assist animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education, so many of the animals it works with are older, Director of Animal Care Ellen Proctor said. Working with baby animals such as the cougar cubs is always a special experience, she said. "They're very playful, very interactive," Proctor said. The cubs—Oliver, Willow and Roxy—arrived in the zoo in October after staffers found them orphaned after their mother was shot and killed by a hunter in Washington, according to the zoo. The zoo is located at 10808 Rawhide Trail. Full schedules as well as admission pricing details will be posted on the Austin Zoo website, www.austinzoo.org.
