Friendswood City Council unanimously approved a contract with PRC Roofing Company at its regular meeting Dec. 7 for a project to replace the roof at City Hall. The improvement will eliminate water leaks at the facility, according to city officials.

Houston-based roofer PRC was the lowest bidder at $175,689, according to Friendswood Parks and Recreation Director James Toney. It was the second call for bids for the project in the wake of concerns over bid specifications and notice to other bidders, officials said.

“The first time we bid the project we denied all bids and went out for rebid,” Toney said. “This second time around we were successful in having two bidders bid [for] the roof project.”

A previous contract was awarded in September to Braun’s Roofing, the only other contractor to submit an eligible proposal in November. The award was rescinded before the latest process.

Toney said both bidders proposed using the same material and installation process. However, PRC’s bid came in about $60,000 lower. The project will be funded by the city, according to officials.

The roof is expected to be installed within 90 work days, according to officials.
