When Allen Miner opened the first Another Broken Egg Cafe in the Greater Houston area four years ago, it was the first time he had ever opened a full-service restaurant or been involved in the restaurant industry.

Located in Portofino Shopping Center in Shenandoah, Miner said the restaurant franchise was a new opportunity for him and has since been the most fun job he has ever had.

“I came to Houston with another corporate company, and my wife and I wanted to own our own business,” Miner said. “We saw Another Broken Egg in Panama City, Florida, and my wife really liked it so we decided to open the first one here. I went to another cafe location for four weeks and acted as a server, host and dishwasher to gain experience then came back here to open this location.”

Miner said the cafe he opened has since become a success. Serving breakfast, brunch and lunch daily from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., the cafe offers its own food creations that have been met with approval from customers.

“We get creative here—we have cinnamon roll French toast, we have fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and we have baked Brie,” Miner said. “We don’t just have breakfast options, we have burgers and salads, too.”

Customer favorites include an omelette called Hey Lucy!!!, a breakfast dish called the Egg Scrambler and a Santa Fe burger—a popular item ordered for lunch.

The bar features drinks ranging from various coffee options to alcoholic beverages, such as bloody marys, mimosas and Bellinis.

Miner said the cafe sees about 300 customers on weekdays, 400 customers on Friday and up to 700 customers on the weekends.

“It definitely gets busy here,” he said. “We really focus on customer service. We have a great team here.”

In addition to tables and booths around the restaurant, bar seating and courtyard seating are available outside the restaurant. Customers can also sit outside in the courtyard that is located behind the cafe and features a flowing fountain along with tables and chairs.

“A lot of people think we’re just the inside of the cafe and then see we have an outside section too,” Miner said. “Sometimes we hold events in the back section of the cafe as well.”

Miner said Another Broken Egg could add new locations around Houston in the future.

“I think there will definitely be a few more locations coming to the Houston area,” he said.” I know there is one coming within a year from now to the Greater Houston area. As for me, I don’t know if I’m going to open another one yet.”
